Whose Face Do You See?

Next week we are going to read a story called Whose Face Do You See? by Melvin Burgess.

Before reading the story, work in pairs to discuss what you think the story will be about. Post your ideas in your blog.
Once you have done that, open a Word Document and give it a name, for example, a combination of the story and your initials. If you are doing this activity in the computer lab at school, save the document in the 9th grade English 2006 folder.
Now click on the following link Whose Face Do You See? Pre- Reading, Characterization.
Working with your partner, read the four activities in this worksheet and answer them in your Word document.
If there are any words you don't understand, remember you can use the Cambridge Online Dictionary to look up these words.
Check spelling, grammar and punctuation. Save the document.
You can email the document from your own account to your home address so that you can later work on the same document at home if necessary.
When you finish the task, copy it and post it in your blog.
In a week's time you will have to read your classmates posts and comment on their ideas. Say whether you agree or disagree with their answers to the questions in the worksheet and help with spelling, grammar or punctuation if you find any mistakes.

You will discover more about the significance of the words and the lives of these famous people; and nominate your own 'moving words'. We will be discussing your choice in class.

This is the collective blog of 18, 9th grade students at Escuela de la Ciudad in Bahía Blanca, Argentina. The students are between 14 and 15 years old and have been studying English for 9 years now, four hours a week. Their level of English is pre-intermediate. Our project will run from March to November 2006.
